Get to Know… Sue Perry, Contract Hire Manager for Birmingham and Stoke

We interviewed Sue Perry to learn where she nurtured her love of sales.

Where are you from originally?

Worcestershire, and I still live in the same town today.

What was your first job?

My first job was working for an Antiques Magazine as an office junior. After nine months I was promoted to Personal Assistant to the owner. I found my love of selling during my visits to antiques fairs.

What job(s) did you have before joining DGTT?

I have always been in sales and, before joining Dawsongroup, I worked for a car and van rental company.

When did you join DGTT?

I first joined the company in 2000 and worked here for five years. After this time, I moved on to new company and role, but I missed working for Dawsongroup and happily returned in 2013.

What was your first job at DGTT?

In 2000, I was employed as a Branch Sales Manager, based in Birmingham.

What’s your current job and what does it involve?

I am currently the Contract Hire Manager for the Birmingham and Stoke depots. In this role, I am responsible for account management, contract hire, and utilising the current available fleet.

What’s been the highlight of your time at DGTT?

I can’t say I’ve one specific highlight, however, it’s always a good feeling when I see new vehicles going out on long-term contract hire to a happy customer.

Who or what has been the main influence in your career?

The main influence in my career has been the people I work with; they are always looking to do a good job, no matter what challenges they face and strive to get the job done right.

What significant changes have you seen in the business during your time at DGTT?

Dawsongroup truck and trailer has evolved so much since I joined. The brand name of Dawsongroup is a lot more well known and respected; people know what we do and what we’re about. In fact, the whole company culture has evolved, and they really care about the wellbeing of their staff and customers.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love to travel and spend as much time as I can abroad – Barbados is my favourite. I have the urge to travel to Thailand, maybe in the next couple of years.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I was a ‘Games Maker’ for the London 2012 Olympics. It was volunteer work and I travelled to London every day for two weeks where I was part of the flying squad. I even have a thank you letter from the Prime Minister, David Cameron, and met Boris Johnson.

I also won the National Bingo in 2008.

What’s on your bucket list?

I have always wanted to do a sky dive, something I’ll be ticking off my bucket list this year as my son bought it for me as a Christmas present. I will be jumping out of an aeroplane in July.

What’s your favourite film or film genre?

I enjoy period dramas, and rom coms, with Pretty Woman being my all-time favourite.

What annoys you in life?

Negativity & dishonesty.

What’s your biggest regret?

I don’t have any regrets; I believe in learning from mistakes and never look back.
